Advantages of Digital Photography

The main advantages of Digital Photographyis the instantaneous results you get. No more waiting anywhere from a few hours, to up to two weeks for film processing and printing. Just take the picture, and you can view it. In many cases right from the camera itself. Most newer Digital Cameras have a view screen where you can view your photo just seconds after taking it. It wasn't very long ago that instant cameras took the picture and shot a piece of film, along with it's developer from the camera. Even older models in which you had to open the camera back and extract the picture, and then to protect it from scratches and fingerprints you had to smear a protective coating on it. Ah, those were the days. Not! With the advent of the digital revolution now we have cameras available that take pictures as high quality as any film camera up to what is considered Medium Format cameras. More than that they are extremely portable and many models fit in a shirt pocket. And forget about processing. Just plug a memory card or cable from the camera into the computer and upload. You can transfer digital photographic information into the computer and by using a good photo editing program, you can enhance and improve your pictures, remove red eye, and control both color and contrast. What's better you can even download a program for the computer for free. (There are several). Weight and size are big improvements in cameras as well. A good 35mm camera only a few years ago weighed several pounds, now a Digital Camera weighs in at mere ounces. The size of a 35mm camera although not extremely huge, also had to have a separate flash unit (Strobe) if you wanted to take photos in low light or even dark situations. Most modern Digital Cameras have built in flashes, and are so adjustable as to allow high film speeds, just as if you wanted to shoot 400 ISO film at 3200 ISO. Thus allowing shots in near total darkness. Never before has photography been easier, or cheaper to get into. A good 35mm Camera could set you back several hundred to several thousand dollars. Digital Cameras can be purchased for under a hundred dollars, and no cost for film or developing and printing. And if you want prints put some photo paper in your printer and print all you want. Photography sure has come a long way.
